Lately I’ve had real estate on the brain. We’re shopping places. I have an aunt and uncle who just got a competitive offer on their house in St. Louis, and they recently bought a place on the water in Florida. We’re also fielding potential buyers at our place and have a potential buyer who is interested in creative financing options. I’ll talk about some of those in a later post, probably next week. As with anything else, there is a lot of real estate information available on the web. Lots of realtors have blogs. Of course, lots of them are just tools to market themselves and their book of business rather than helpful tools to help you learn about and, hopefully, profit from real estate. I’m also still reading John Reed’s book, How to Buy Real Estate for 20% Below Market Value. My wife gets updates on multiple properties that we’re following and we’ve been getting notified of a lot of price drops. Real estate in general is a pretty frequent topic around our house right now. For that reason, I’ve been checking out some of the information on real estate blogs around the web. Here are some of the best ones, I’ve found so far. I might make a couple of comments but for the most part I’ll let them speak for themselves. In no particular order.
Zillow Blog – For the most part, this is just a for fun blog. Lots of celebrity real estate news. Lots of info explaining and pimping Zillow. Check out the most recent post, about Zillow Mortgage Marketplace, which as far as I can tell is sort of like Lending Tree – I couldn’t say what their fee is or how they make their money, but I’m planning on checking this feature out.
Hot Property – This is Business Week’s blog expounding on Real Estate and mortgage markets. They discuss economic factors that drive the market. It’s a good overview of economic factors that you should be thinking about if you’re thinking about buying real estate anywhere. Good stuff, check it out.
Inman Blog – This is another good source for real estate news in general. They talk about a little of this and a little of that, with a focus on how technology is used in marketing.
Matrix – This is a blog covering real estate from the perspective of a real estate appraiser. Since lots of blogs are written by agents, brokers, lawyers and theorists, this is a nice perspective to add to the mix. Plus, the blog is very well done.
Future of Real Estate Marketing – This blog is a spin-off of sorts of the Inman Blog. It focuses on how the web has changed real estate marketing and advertising.
Bigger Pockets – Bigger Pockets is a real estate networking community. They maintain an excellent blog as well. Here it is.
Bloodhound Blog – This might be my favorite out of the blogs. Like a lot of the other blogs, this site focuses on using web technologies and social networking to sell or deal with real estate.
I’m sure there are lots of other real estate blogs out there that are well worth reading. If you know of any that has a lot of great stuff regarding real estate markets and investment, please leave them in the comments or email me. I’ll consider this an open, ongoing list. Thanks for reading.

Great list!! I hadn’t seen bloodhound or matrix before – so they are now bookmarked thanks!! The carnival of real estate always has some great posts and blogs in it too. It might be worth checking out if you still have property on the brain. http://www.carnivalofrealestate.com/
